Elderwood Bard

This one has been a labor of love, with hand-patterned applique, LED details, foamwork, and a bit of my dancing past, this guardian spirit has stayed with me always. I gender-bent this one, and turned it human.

Black Widow

Natasha is so strong and badass, I was instantly drawn to her character. I always appreciate cosplays where I can use my natural hair (wigs are a bit brutal). I really wanted to challenge myself to make a 3D model that was more sophisticated, so I took on her batons. I was able to create and print them out myself! It did take quite a while to do that piece, so I commissioned the suit from cosplay007.com with great results. She is quite the character to portray, and I love every second of it!

Captain Marvel

This was an interesting one, as I had several people ask me if I was going to do a Captain Marvel cosplay. I knew the movie was coming out soon, but didn't really have any thoughts. So, I picked up the latest series of the comics and sat down to read away. I instantly fell in love with Carol's strength, determination, and kind-hearted sass! I had this suit custom made for me, but did end up heavily modifying it, adding details and cutting in air vents so I didn't sweat to death in pleather. Now, she's one of my favorites to cosplay!

Cinderella

After I saw the live-action movie I knew I had to make that ballgown! This was my first ball gown project, with twelve layers of tulle, one petticoat, one hoop skirt, a triple-layer boned corset, 800 Swarovski crystals, and over 50 hand-stamped and cut chiffon butterflies. This really expanded my boundaries of sewing skill; I felt I could take anything on after this! The fun part of this was I made it as a matched set with my Mother, who made the fairy godmother cosplay! I will never forget the little kids' faces at the convention who came up and loved to see the princess and her godmother. This is also my first award-winning cosplay, as I won a masquerade contest with it!

Fina

Skies of Arcadia, my absolute favorite console RPG that was ever made. I instantly related to Fina in the game, as she was shy, demure, yet incredibly powerful when she needed to be. It helped she had an adorable pet sidekick, Cupil! I got to make a plushie for the first time, which was actually quite fun. This was also my first project really painting on fabric, with all the gold circuit-like patterns. While there are very few people who recognize this character, it's always such a blast to find that one other game fan and nerd out!

Fortnite

I consider my two Fortnite cosplays a bit hipster; as I made them before the Battle Royale mode was even thought of! I was playing the game in beta and loved it so much I made the ninja and outlander cosplays as a couples costume for PAX. This was my first time 3D modeling/printing my own props for the outlander, and I scavenged many other materials in true Fortnite fashion! I was able to meet the game designers at the event, and had such a blast hanging out with them! They even sent me a swag bag later because they were just that cool. This really showed me how cosplay can be such a positive force and compliment the original creators!

Galadriel

Apparently, cosplay has been in my blood since I was very little. As a child I dressed up as Galadriel for Halloween, and then returned to her as an adult. I didn't even realize it until my Mother dug up an old picture when I made my new cosplay! The Tolkien elves have always called to me and my sense of style; I would dress like them everyday if I could. Over 600 Swarovski crystals adorn this dress, and it was my first time doing any kind of in-depth wig styling!

Gwenom

Being an avid Spider-Gwen fan, and doing a normal cosplay of her already, I decided it was time to bring out the Gwenom. I ordered the suit from herostime.com, with the original design from the main comics. I gotta say, after doing the makeup and stalking around in this cosplay, it felt good to let my inner Gwenom out!

Hades

This cosplay had been on my to-do list for years, but I was always scared of the body paint and wig. I finally took the leap, and tried both wig styling and paint out for the first time! The airbrushing process was long, but the look turned out fantastic. I also spliced two wigs together, and then just gelled, glued, and pinned the wig together; it was all a blur but somehow, I ended up with that perfect shape! The dress may look familiar, as I decided to use my Fina dress original pattern for it, and then tediously hand-sewed on all the trim. With subtle silver embroidery accents, and two Pain & Panic funko pops, I became Queen of the Underworld, and it was fantastic.

Hela

This deliciously evil and snarky character is my favorite persona to embody in cosplay. Having Viking ancestry myself, it is both a nerdy and a personal a joy to bring her to life! She is definitely my most well-known cosplay, and people are always shocked when they meet me with my natural blonde hair! I worked with Herostime.com to design the bodysuit and print it, and I made the cape out of a double layer of some magical fabric I found. I think those superheroes have it all wrong, capes are amazing.

Janna

Oh boy, this an early creation of mine and it was my first dalliance with electronics! Really, it was a night-light I frost coated and stuck on top of a staff, but it counts! It was also my first large prop build; it consisted of cardboard, foam, jewels, hot glue, clay, a plastic glass stem and a curtain rod. I hand-patterned the entire outfit myself and sewed it together, and just had to focus on sucking in my stomach for an entire day. This was a variant outfit specific to the Esports team, Fnatic. I played Janna in League of Legends and Fnatic was my favorite team at the time, so of course I had to create this!

Lux

Double rainbow, what does it mean? Lux is the light mage from League of Legends and my very first character I played well. This was actually my very first cosplay I made! I had seen people dressing up at conventions and wanted to participate too; PAX Prime was where I made my debut. I had no idea that foam armor existed at this point, all I knew how to do was sew! So, I made this entire armor out of really stiff quilting interfacing covered in silver fabric and gold ribbon trim. I also did make the blue under bodysuit, which taught me that stretch fabrics definitely have a specific direction they stretch. I made her staff with a wooden dowel and some modelling clay for the ends. I did make it into League of Legends cosplay spotlight with this one!

Mermaid

This was the result of a fun idea for a group cosplay shoot and I just ran with it. While not portraying any mermaid in particular, I really wanted to create something beautiful. I sewed on over 200 stones, beads, and crystals complete with draped fish net to the top to create a surreal mermaid look. The purchased tail was so much fun to be in, though incredibly tricky to move around in water or land. I think I ended up with more sand in it than anything, but hey it added to the realism right?

Moogle, Kupo!

My first, and last, time sewing faux fur was my pin-up style moogle from final fantasy. Oh, it's just a corset and a circle skirt I thought, it will be easy I thought. Nope, this was my first cosplay I seriously contemplated setting on fire, as the fur fibers got EVERYWHERE during construction. I had to vacuum out my room twice a sewing session just to see what I was doing! My poor machine took it like a champ, and that is also how I learned about proper cleaning and sewing machine maintenance. I suppose every cosplay I make teaches me something, even if it's not what I think it will be! The wings and headband were Etsy purchases, as I had completely had it once the clothing was done. Plus, it's always nice to support other creators.

Rikku

This one is near and dear to my heart, since Rikku was my all-time favorite character to play in Final Fantasy X. Mischievous, but with a heart of gold, Rikku is who I wanted to be when I grew up! I wanted to create her outfit how she would have; scavenging! I created her top and arm pieces by upcycling an old orange suede jacket and green vinyl skirt, used garage sale fabric I had laying around for her shorts, painted an old pair of boots, painted and attached a couple old belts together, and painted the feathers by hand. I used other bits and bobs I had laying around for the finishing touches, while 3D modelling and printing her hand blades and the back details. Just watch your pockets around her!

Sarah Yoshida

This was an interesting project, as it was a completely original design of mine! I was contacted by Extreme Anime Radio to portray their mascot, Sarah Yoshida, in an outfit of my own. I pieced together my favorite pattern pieces from about five different patterns and came up with this! She is a ballet dancer, so I was able to incorporate my pointe shoes, which is always a blast for me to do! If you look closer, I just can't get away from my elven tendencies; I used the Galadriel sleeves in this one.

Spider Gwen

After reading the Spider-Gwen comics, I instantly fell in love with the character and had to cosplay her! My husband had gotten me some hand-painted Spider-Gwen shoes which I paired with a bodysuit from Herostime.com. While I didn't do any sewing on this one, I did have to really workout and stretch so I could hit those classic spider poses! I'm always sore the next day after wearing this, I probably should do yoga or something.

White Mage

I cast Curaga! The quintessential Final Fantasy White Mage; white with red triangles, so many red triangles…I see them in my dreams now. It was exhausting cutting out all those red triangles but I really wanted to do a cute pin-up style White Mage! This originally started out as a Halloween costume, but I later returned to it and upgraded several pieces to make it more cosplay-esque. I've yet to take photos of the newest improvements, stay tuned!

Who is this SwedishBallerina?

Is she a human or is she just a figment of our imagination.
